The Department of History aims at building an academic community of students, researchers and teachers devoted to an open critical and analytical study of the discipline with an emphasis on the inter-disciplinary approach. It also aims at making courses and research work socially relevant and to develop in the students an awareness of the basic issues and problems in the discipline and equipping them intellectually to fulfil these needs. The department looks forward to teaching students who are eager to study history and acquire a broad understanding of historical ideas, social and economic developments and popular movements. Those who enjoy reading, writing and discussion will like studying history.

Studying history is important because it allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present. If we want to know how and why our world is the way it is today, we have to look to history for answers. People often say that “history repeats itself,” but if we study the successes and failures of the past, we may, ideally, be able to learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them in the future. Studying history can provide us with insight into our cultures of origin as well as cultures with which we might be less familiar, thereby increasing cross-cultural awareness and understanding.

The College has no. of quality books related to History subject to cater for the need of students. The books are of Indian as well as foreign authors various teaching methodologies are adopted by department viz lecture method, group discussion and social survey methods.
