At the threshold of the 21^stcentury, we are confronted with two conflicting scenarios for the future of mankind. On one hand, there are possibilities of a bright future with press button living, space technology, information technology, genetic engineering and such other advances in science and technology.  On the other hand, a grim scenario is looming large with a burgeoning population, depletion of resources, pollution of life-supporting systems, loss of biodiversity, global warming and ozone depletion. Faced with such imminent threats, there is a growing realization that rational utilization of environmental endowments of the life-supporting system is a must for a sustainable future.

The department of Environmental Sciences was established in the year 2004 with the aim of creating awareness among students regarding various environmental issues. Apart from academics, the department undertakes co-curricular and extra-curricular activities by organizing seminars, workshops, debates, quizzes and field trips/tours.
