Sociology is the one of the subjects that was introduced in first academic session in Govt. Degree College Ganderbal in 2002.The Department has since then upheld its commitment towards fulfilling its mandate through the medium of quality instruction and collaboration.The Subject evolved from few hundred students to above one thousand in 2018. The Department is working tirelessly to keep pace with the challenges emerging from dynamic nature of society. With changing discourse of the times the Skill based courses in Gender Sensitization and Sociology of Crime were introduced in 2018 and 2019.
HOD's Message
I deem it my privilege and honor to welcome you to the department of sociology. Right from its inception in 2002, the department trains the youth within the domain of positive philosophy for a prosperous future of society. The department encourages and guides the students to choose appropriate careers and prepare them for competitive examinations, academics, administration (KAS/KPS) non- government organizations etc. With the latest innovative pedagogy techniques, the teaching learning process is made interesting, effective and inspirational.. Field trips and study tours are often organized by the department to provide knowledge to the students by giving opportunity for self-experience and observation.

Facilities: Society is the laboratory for the students of the sociology department. Students are made aware about the subject by on field experiences among the people. The Department has a rich collection of references, books etc in the central library of the college.
